:: Connectivity ::

Wap Browsing allows you to visit many wap sites and gives you the ablitlity to install picuters (128 X 128 Max), ringtones (in mmf format) and java applets specifically designed for wiresless phones (Midlets). Wap connectivity is limited to the above tasks and Wap Internet browsing.

Data cable and IRDa port connection allows you to upload pictures and ringtones, it allows you to edit and import your Windows phonebook (not OUTLOOK), edit Calendar Events, edit and send SMS messages and Edit call records on your phone from your pc with easyGPRS v2.0.4.

Data cable and IRDa port connection does not allow you to upload MIDLETS to your phone. These two connections rely on software called EasyGPRS 2.0.4 (earlier versions will not work with the S105) that can be downloaded from the Samsung German site (no software has been officially released for the Samsung S105 in the US). The difference between the data cable connection and the IRDa port is the IRDa is an infra red that is equiped on the phone that can interact with an IRDa port on your PC or laptop.

The advantage of IRDa is that it is wireless and much cheaper than the data cable. The advantage of the data cable is that the data cable is much faster, it is needed to flash the phone if a newer firmware is released and it is used to SIM unlock the phone which enables the phone to be used by another GSM carrier other than T-Mobile.

:: Unlocking ::

The Samsung S105, unlike it's European twin (Samsung S100), comes SIM locked and Wap settings locked. SIM lock means that the phone will only accept T-mobile SIMs and therefore the phone can not be used with any other GSM provider anywhere. Wap settings locked means that the wap settings are locked to T-mobile's gateway to use GPRS Or CSD and therefore the phone can not be used on any other Network's Wap gateway.

SIM Unlocking

  1. Remove the SIM card from your phone and enter the stack reset code *2767*STACKRESET#
  2. After the phone reboots enter the following code #0111*00000000#
  3. "Personalization Cancelled" should be displayed.

Alternatively, if you are a T-mobile customer and you have had service with T-mobile for more than three months, send a short email to SIMUnlock@T-Mobile.com stating that you purchased a Tri-Band phone and you are going abroad and need to unlock your phone to use in Europe. Provide them with your name, billing address, mobile phone number and (most important of all) your phone's IMEI number, which can be found on the box, on the back of the phone (remove the battery), or press *#06# to display it on your handset. T-mobile will email you instructions on how to enter the code and unlock your phone successfuly.

Wireless Application Protocol Unlocking

WAP settings can now be access by entering code *#VSWAP# into your handset.

Once you input the code correctly it will bring you to the hidden menu where you can change your WAP settings to another carrier's settings. From this menu you can also select CSD as the default instead of GPRS. CSD will allow you to use your minutes instead of your bandwith from T-zones.

:: Operator Logo ::

The operator logo is displayed on the phone along with the date and time. In order to display your animated gif or wallpaper better. The operator can be "removed" but there is not yet a way to remove the date and time. *Graphic logo must be ON, to be able to "remove" the op logo. Menu ->Phone Settings ->Display Settings ->Graphic Logo ->ON (4.7.5.2).

Operator Logo
Operator Logo Removed

Onceyou have turned ON "Graphic Logo" as stated above, you need to send your self a blank operator logo from www.nextones.com.

  1. Register for nextones (its free to register),fill in all the correct info like phone model, correct service provider and your state.
  2. Check the email address you registered with for log in information.
  3. Log in, either buy some credits or click on freebies ->free icons to send yourself a different logo.
  4. If you did everything correct, after cliking the send button you should recieve an SMS message with your new operator logo.
  5. View the message, select "options" and save it. The new operator logo should be intalled, if you purchased credits and got a blank logo it will seem that the operator logo has been removed.

Freebees:

Nextones charges $2.99 for 200 credits, you need 99 credits to purchase a blank logo which is not bad since you can save it on your SIM, but if freenes is what you want (and who doesn't) visit http://www.nextones.net/ and play their online memory game to win 100 credits for your blank operator logo. http://fonetastic.com/ offers a free operator logo after you register and click your way through their load of advertisements. but once you are done regestering, and are given your choice of operator logo, select any operator and click on "customize". At this point you simply clear it and you have a blank logo to send to your phone.

Troubleshooting: If you have recieved your logo and have saved it but the old logo is still displayed, MAKE SURE YOUR TURNED "graphics logo" ON FROM THE MENU ON YOUR HANDSET. (MENU 4.7.5.2) ***
