| About |
| This site is a compilation of all the scattered information I have found on the web about the Samsung SGH S105. I decided to put this site up for anyone who is looking to buy this phone or anyone who currently owns this phone and needs a bit more of information on it. I am sure I left out many details and facts about this great phone so if you have any comments, suggestions or more information that needs to be on this site, please feel free to contact me. (I apoligize if I may not get to your question, I have been swamped with work lately and probably for the rest of my life) |

The Samsung S105 has three ways to connect for data input
or output, they are Wap browsing, data cable connection and IRDa Port connection.
| Wap Browsing allows you to visit many wap
sites and gives you the ablitlity to install picuters (128 X 128 Max),
ringtones (in mmf format) and java applets specifically designed for wiresless
phones (Midlets). Wap connectivity |

| Data cable and IRDa port connection does
not allow you to upload MIDLETS to your phone. These two connections
rely on software called EasyGPRS
2.0.4 (earlier versions will not work with the S105) that can be downloaded
from
the Samsung
German site (no software has been officially released for the Samsung
S105 in the US). The difference
between the data cable connection and the IRDa port is the IRDa is an
infra red that is equiped on the phone that can
interact with an IRDa port on your PC or laptop.

The Samsung S105, unlike it's European twin (Samsung S100), comes SIM locked
and Wap settings locked. SIM lock means
that the phone will only accept T-mobile SIMs and therefore the phone can
not be used with any other GSM provider anywhere.
Wap settings locked means that the wap settings are locked to T-mobile's
gateway to use GPRS Or CSD and therefore the phone
can not be used on any other Network's Wap gateway. SIM unlock can be done two ways, |
1. The first way to unlock your Samsung S105 is the easy way. If you are a T-mobile customer and you have had service with T-mobile for more than three months, send a short email to SIMUnlock@T-Mobile.com stating that you purchased a Tri-Band phone and you are going abroad and need to unlock your phone to use in Europe. Provide them with your name, billing address, mobile phone number and (most important of all) your phone's IMEI number, which can be found on the box, on the back of the phone (remove the battery), or press *#06# to display it on your handset. T-mobile will email you instructions on how to enter the code and unlock your phone successfuly. ***Warning: Do not use "Universal Unlock Codes", they will lock your phone and render it useless. Only use the unlock code T-mobile provides for you, it is based on an algorithm using your IMEI number so your unlock code will be unique.*** 2. The second way to unlock your Samsung S105 is if you purchased the phone and do not have a T-mobile account. The following is taken from Howardsforums Samsung FAQ. " 1) Get a Samsung OEM Cable and set it to D/L 2) From this site http://www.thienlongtel.com/download/samsung/ download: IMEIS100_SVC.zip and WinI109Q100_Security.zip 3) Run the install found in WinI109Q100_Security.zip 4) Unzip and copy IMEIS100_SVC.EXE into the installed directory (typically C:\Program Files\Samsung Electronics\SghQ100 Imei) 5) Power on the phone (with SIM in it) 6) Connect the cable (with The Switch to D/L and the charger plugged into the cable) 7) Launch IMEIS100_SVC.EXE 8) Don't change anything on the first screen but click "Write IMEI" and another dialog will open. 9) On this dialog, click "RD IMEISetting" and WAIT until PASS in top left corner (if this fails, stop here! This is only a READ; not a WRITE so you've done NO damage - also if you DO get an error, check that the The Switch is on D/L and try the RD IMEISetting button again). 10 ) Now click "UnLock" and WAIT until PASS top left corner - I didn't wait more than 2 seconds for the PASS to appear. Also, if you have an animated screen saver you will notice it stopped; don't worry. 11) At this point, I clicked exit, pulled the cable and battery and restarted the phone and T-Mobile worked. Do not click the WAP button at any time! While there is a WAP button on the "write" part of the screen, if you click it, you will succeed in clearing out your WAP Proxy settings. This proves that you can manipulate the WAP settings via the Data Cable, but what it doesn't let you do is set a new set of proxy settings - you will not be able to connect to the Internet if you click the WAP button! " |
| Once you input the code correctly it will
bring you to the hidden menu where
you can change your WAP settings to another carrier's settings. From this
menu
you can also select CSD as the default instead of GPRS. |
| The operator logo is displayed on the phone
along with the date and time. In order to display your animated gif or
wallpaper
better. The operator can be "removed" but there is not yet a way to remove
the date and time. |
